Staff Reunions
These have been held at various times over the last 20 years or so, and have latterly been held at the Ritz Social Club in Burnham-on-Sea.
The last one took place in 2024 and there are currently no plans for further events. However, should there be enough interest, the possibility of one FINAL reunion will be considered.
As above, these reunions are STRICTLY for ex-staff and families.

Talks about Portishead Radio
These are given to local history, radio amateur, and similar community groups around the Somerset area.
They are scheduled to last just over one hour, with plenty of time for questions and answers. Projector and small screen (if necessary) will be provided.
Please email info@portisheadradio.co.uk for current charges and availability.
When Portishead Radio closed in 2000, it was such a sad day for me as I couldn’t imagine being out in the ocean without hearing the wonderful, friendly, expert voices of the people watching over us. You are still missed, even today, with all the technical gizmos, nothing will ever replace the voices of Portishead Radio.
— Tracy Edwards MBE
My and my team’s best regards to the station’s members for their outstanding service and dedication, through many decades, in maintaining links to the outside world on our expeditions.
— Sir Ranulph Fiennes, MBE
Portishead provided an invaluable service to all vessels at sea and in particular to an isolated single handed sailor.
— Sir Robin Knox-Johnston
I have many memories of working GKA over the years, especially those big QRY numbers on a Friday afternoon, but you were guaranteed a first class operator on the other end when your turn finally came around, well done to all of you for providing a fantastic and reliable service.
— Radio Officer Adrian Ellison
You were the best, you even heard me when I called on 4 MHz, as a last resort, from the Pacific. You struggled through some of the worst conditions and never gave up. You always took control and did it well and for all that I thank you.
— Radio Officer John Bell
